21st Annual Plenary Conference, 2023
The Annual Plenary Conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI) in 2023 took place on 8-10 June, hosted by TU Dublin Conservatoire (Grangegorman, Dublin 7). Professor Elaine Kelly (University of Edinburgh) was the keynote speaker. The title of her paper was Musical Contact Zones of International Socialism: East Germany and the Postcolonial World.
The first day of the conference, Thursday 8 June, coincided with a symposium hosted by TU Dublin Conservatoire held in conjunction with the Irish Research Council, the Irish Traditional Music Archive and the Princess Grace Irish Library. The symposium – ‘Irish-American Music Cultures’ – ran parallel to the conference sessions, with the keynote, all papers and concerts open to SMI delegates.
The programme for both the SMI Conference and the Irish-American Music Cultures Symposium is available here.
